Place: Slavic man on 7th Ave
Dog Style: “Homemade” Honey Garlic Sausage
Bun Style: White, Lightly Toasted on BBQ
Came With: Nothing.
Cost: Medium
Condiments: Ketchup, Mustard, Sweet relish, White onions
My Thoughts: The man behind the cart was grumpy and monosyllabic, but his sausage did the talking for him. Tender and sweet, this was a delectable, freshly bbq’d, tender sausage that made for a warm snack as I got completely lost in the wrong end of downtown Calgary.
Rating: Pretty Good.
Left me feeling: Refreshed, slightly dizzy.

Place: Tubby Dog
Dog Style: Processed Meat
Bun Style: White
Came With: (A-Bomb) “Cheese”, bacon bits, mustard, mayo, ketchup, potato chips
Cost: High
Condiments: All included
My Thoughts: From the kitsch decor to the surly teenage hipsters behind the counter, I enjoyed my entire experience at Tubby Dog. The hot dog itself was unwieldy and and sloppy, being loaded down with more toppings than a Bangalore city bus. Everything was well chosen and applied, with the leftover chips covered in ez-cheeze making for a palatable dessert. I will be going back at least twice in the next week, for both the pb&j dog (with Captain Crunch, of course) and the Mystery Dog.
Rating: A+ Will Eat Again.
Left Me Feeling: 20 years younger.

Place: Cart on Burrard and Davie
Dog Style: Processed Meat Paste
Bun Style: Panini
Came With: Nothing
Cost: Medium
Condiments: ketchup, green rooster sauce, sweet mustard, white onions, bbq sauce
My Thoughts: The dog was hot and fresh, the bun the perfect size, and the little chain-smoking asian man serving it friendly. There was a surprising selection of hot sauces, and a blank canvas given. This was exactly what I wanted from a street vendor. It took 10 minutes out of my day for a tasty snack. The only downside was the lack of tubesteak-esq selection of sausages, but the variety of condiments more then made up for it.
Rating: Tasty.
Left me feeling: Satisfied.

Place: Granville Island Market.
Dog Style: Polish Sausage.
Bun Style: White & Fluffy.
Came With: Sauerkraut.
Cost: Ouch.
Condiments: Ketchup, dijon, sweet relish.
My Thoughts: The sausage was heavy and flavourful, but a bit dry from being on the grill too long and too short for the bun. There was a good selection of condiments, but the sauerkraut was especially bland and watery. It was very pleasant to eat, sitting on the wharf on Granville Island, but not worth the money for a poorly cooked “specialty” sausage.
Rating: Alright.
Left Me Feeling: Ambivalent and poor.

Place: Vera’s Burger Shack.
Dog Style: Beef Hot Dog.
Bun Style: Plain White and crumbly.
Came With: Lettuce, mayo, mustard, tomato, relish, Vera’s sauce, bell peppers, Dijon, pickles, and red onions.
Cost: Medium.
Condiments: All included.
My Thoughts: I had very little control over the condiments on this hot dog, and the lack of care taken ruined what could have been very tasty. The pickles were far too large for a hot dog, the ketchup was using sparingly, and the lettuce and bell peppers were unwelcome. The sausage itself was tasty and freshly cooked, but hidden under far too many messy toppings.
Rating: O.k.
Left Me Feeling: Unsatisfied.

Place: BC Ferries Cafe.
Dog Style: Processed.
Bun Style: White and fluffy.
Came With: Nothing.
Cost: Medium
Condiments: Ketchup, Mustard, Sweet relish. All from packets.
My Thoughts: This was a good, classic hot dog. Its been on a rotisserie grill for the last couple hours, its lukewarm and made of smooth, undefinable meat. The condiment selection consisted of packets of ketchup, mustard and relish. It’s a classic smooth, cheap and bland dog that needs a pile of condiments to be enjoyed. that being said, it’s completely unadvertised on any sign in the cafe, yet they sell out almost every sailing. Perfect ferry snack.
Rating: Not bad.
Left me feeling: Hungry.
